The Lindsay Thomas Jr. Training Institutes for Volunteer Lay Workers are a signature initiative of Abokin Inc., a faith-based nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Lindsay Thomas Jr. Abokin is dedicated to enhancing the spiritual, health, and educational well-being of underserved communities across East and West Africa, as well as the West Indies.
The Lindsay Thomas Jr. Training Institutes for Volunteer Lay Workers provide intensive Bible Study programs designed to train and equip lay volunteers for evangelism, home visitation, and Bible teaching. These three-week institutes emphasize practical ministry skills and spiritual development, empowering individuals to become local church leaders and community evangelists.
Abokin’s broader mission is to reach out, touch, and help the poor, the needy, the destitute, and the helpless through a unique blend of spiritual outreach and hands-on support. In addition to training, the organization engages in sustainable development projects such as building churches, digging wells, conducting health seminars, providing medical and dental care, and distributing food and clothing.
Founded in the early 1970s, Abokin has led to the baptism of over 110,000 individuals into the Seventh-day Adventist Church and continues to empower grassroots leadership across the continent. In recognition of Dr. Thomas’s impact, the Adventist University of Africa in Nairobi named its multipurpose complex in his honor in 2019.
Abokin Inc. remains committed to carrying forward Dr. Lindsay Thomas Jr.’s legacy—transforming communities through faith, education, and service.

Training lay workers to bring souls to Christ involves equipping them with a clear understanding of the Gospel, a strong prayer life, and the confidence to share their faith. Through Bible study, personal testimony, and practical outreach, they learn to evangelize with love and integrity. The goal is to not only lead others to Christ but also to disciple them in their walk with God.

Our mission is to lead individuals into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the powerful act of baptism. We believe baptism is a public declaration of faith, a symbol of dying to the old self and rising anew in Christ. Through prayer, discipleship, and community support, we prepare hearts to fully understand and embrace this sacred step. Whether in a river, ocean, or simple basin, we celebrate each baptism as a testimony of transformation, renewal, and commitment to walk in the light of God's truth.
